Some of the highlights from this month’s round-up:
- The Pharmacovigilance Risk Assessment Committee (PRAC), acting as the safety committee for the European Medicines Agency (EMA), has introduced new guidance for drugs associated with an increased risk of meningioma brain tumours.
- . In support of the WHO Ukraine Cancer Emergency Response and the “ECO-ASCO Special Network: Impact of the War in Ukraine on Cancer” the online platform ecancer has commissioned a special set of interviews with some of the key players in the cancer humanitarian response both within and outside Ukraine.
- The IBTA’s 2022 edition of its annual magazine, Brain Tumour, is now available online here and here. This issue looks at a wide range of news from the international pediatric and adult brain tumour community.
- The National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) in the United States has published new clinical practice guidelines (log-in required) for paediatric brain tumours following the World Health Organisation’s updated classifications for central nervous system tumours, including those in children.
- Several types of cancer carry a higher risk of the patient developing diabetes, according to a new study by Danish researchers. The study authors state that there is an elevated risk of developing diabetes for patients with several cancers, including cancer of the brain and other parts of the nervous system.
- Researchers report in the Journal of Clinical Oncology survival results from 30 years of clinical trial data on anaplastic oligodendroglial brain tumours gathered from two open-label, randomized phase III trials – the EORTC 26951 and the RTOG 9402. Both trials showed that PCV chemotherapy added to radiotherapy improves progression free survival and overall survival, relative to radiotherapy alone as first-line therapy for these tumours.
